Pro Bono Week 2025 Volunteer Feature: Fran M. Skoller

Happy Pro Bono Week!

Tis the season for celebrating all things pro bono. This week, during National Celebration of Pro Bono, Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (VLJ) will feature some of our amazing volunteers whose generous donation of time and talent ensures access to justice.

Kicking things off right, we celebrate Fran M. Skoller, finance attorney and partner at Thompson Coburn LLP. Fran volunteers with our PRIDE Name Change Program, and she shared her thoughts on the importance of pro bono and why she volunteers with VLJ:

“It is important for attorneys to engage in pro bono legal work because it ensures that people who can’t afford a lawyer still have access to the legal help they need. It promotes fairness in the justice system and allows lawyers to give back to their communities. I am grateful that Thompson Coburn has supported me in these pro bono efforts.

I volunteer with VLJ because I believe everyone deserves equal access to justice. Volunteering gives me a way to use my legal skills to make a real difference in someone’s life. Handling name changes for underrepresented individuals may seem like a small legal step, but it can have a profound impact on how they see themselves and how the world sees them.”

Thank you, Fran, for harnessing the power of pro bono with us!
