Screening of Beyond Survival

Next week, you’re invited to attend a screening of Beyond Survival, a film that tells the story of New York's Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act (DVSJA) and the powerful leadership of currently and formerly incarcerated survivors in creating change. Beyond Survival was produced by the Women & Justice Project and Kashif, in partnership with the Survivors Justice Project.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion that includes a conversation about the work being done to bring similar relief to New Jersey survivors.

Habitability in New Jersey: A Practical Guide for Tenant Advocates

This virtual CLE program will provide an overview of residential habitability issues that New Jersey tenants face so volunteer attorneys can provide meaningful legal assistance. Additionally, this program will provide a brief overview of relevant New Jersey case law, statutes, and procedures surrounding poor residential rental conditions.

This training will prepare participants to effectively assist tenants by providing legal services, ranging from advice to full representation, regarding a New Jersey tenant’s right to safe and decent housing as well as the legal remedies available to them.

This free CLE program will provide an overview of how attorneys can become involved in promoting access to justice with Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (VLJ) through a variety of pro bono opportunities, including limited-scope legal clinics and full representation. Additionally, the program will cover relevant NJ court rules, ethics opinions, and rules of professional conduct related to pro bono practice and poverty law.
