Over the past 25 years, Volunteer Lawyers for Justice has built a powerful community of volunteers who generously give their time and talent to ensure access to justice. With April being National Volunteer Month, we’re putting the spotlight on a few of those incredible volunteers.
Closing out our month-long celebration, today we recognize Lisa Dellamura, Counsel, Trademarks & Copyrights at Merck. Lisa, a volunteer with our Divorce Program and PRIDE Name Change Program, had this to say:
“I volunteer with VLJ because it allows me to help someone in a meaningful way. It gives me the chance to make a real impact and contribute to work that matters for the community.
To me, VLJ's mission of ensuring access to justice for people experiencing poverty means that everyone—regardless of their financial circumstances—deserves a fair chance to navigate the legal system. Access to justice shouldn't depend on someone's ability to pay. Even if a person lacks the resources, they should still be afforded the same rights, protections, and opportunities within the legal system as anyone else.
Serving VLJ clients is incredibly fulfilling. It gives me the opportunity to step outside my day-to-day work and do something that feels truly meaningful. Personally, it's rewarding to know I can make even a small difference, and professionally, it strengthens my skills in listening, problem-solving, and communicating with compassion.”
Thank you, Lisa, for using the law to make a difference for neighbors across the Garden State!
