"I enjoy being able to help individuals outside of my practice group. My practice is very technical and can be scientific at times, so it is nice to be able to use my law degree to help others in a different way.”
-Alyssa D’Antonio
Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (VLJ) proudly recognizes Alyssa D’Antonio as our September 2025 Volunteer of the Month! Alyssa is Counsel at Lowenstein Sandler LLP, where her practice focuses on intellectual property and life sciences. While her day-to-day work involves complex patent law, she volunteers with VLJ's Tenancy Program, using her legal talent to keep families safely housed at home.
A proud alum of Northeastern University and St. John's University School of Law, Alyssa was introduced to VLJ through her firm and immediately embraced the opportunity to give back. As she put it, "I enjoy being able to help individuals outside of my practice group. My practice is very technical and can be scientific at times, so it is nice to be able to use my law degree to help others in a different way.”
One of her most memorable moments with VLJ was getting an eviction notice dismissed for a client—a powerful testament to the impact of pro bono. When asked what she would say to someone hesitant about volunteering, Alyssa offered, "Take the risk. Everyone at VLJ is wonderful to work with and provides guidance if you are unsure of next steps or have questions. You can tell that our pro bono work is truly making a difference to someone who may not have been able to afford it otherwise.”
Humanizing the Law
For Alyssa, volunteering reminds her of the "good that we can do with our law degrees" and the "human nature associated with the law." Her perspective is a beautiful reminder that one’s legal skills and experience can be a transformative tool for good. Beyond her volunteerism with VLJ, Alyssa is involved with the Women’s Initiative Network at Lowenstein Sandler and has supported the Innocence Project through her firm; she also volunteers with Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts and the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.
A Passion for Pounding the Pavement
When she's not practicing law or volunteering, Alyssa can be found breaking a sweat, with several half-marathons and the 2024 NYC Marathon under her belt. She also enjoys golfing, catching Broadway shows, and being a lifelong fan of the NY Yankees and Rangers.
We are tremendously grateful to Alyssa and Lowenstein Sandler for their pro bono partnership, empowering clients and powering justice.
Are you inspired by Alyssa? VLJ always has room for more compassionate attorneys to help ensure access to justice for people experiencing poverty. If you're ready to make a difference, contact Emerald Sheay at esheay@vljnj.org or visit vljnj.org/why-probono.
