Happy Pro Bono Week!
’Tis the season for celebrating all things pro bono. This week, during National Celebration of Pro Bono, Volunteer Lawyers for Justice (VLJ) will feature some of our amazing volunteers whose generous donation of time and talent ensures access to justice.
Today, we celebrate Richard Myslinski, a partner at McCarter & English, LLP. Richard volunteers with our ReLeSe (Reentry Legal Services) Program, and he shared his thoughts on the importance of pro bono and why he volunteers with VLJ:
“As a finance/M&A attorney who predominantly represents nonprofit corporations, I am fortunate to work every day with clients that are in the business of helping others. The impact my work makes is important to me and there is no better example than pro bono service, which really allows a lawyer to make a profound impact on the lives of their clients. That is why I’ve helped so many pro bono clients expunge their criminal records. Everyone deserves access to justice and, for those eligible for an expungement, a second chance.
I volunteer with VLJ because VLJ’s mission is so captivating. VLJ adeptly matches volunteers with pro bono clients in need to capitalize on each lawyer’s unique skillset while also providing ongoing support throughout the client representation. This allows the VLJ team to leverage their depth of knowledge and breadth of experience in pro bono matters to have the greatest impact on the lives of those experiencing poverty and in need of legal assistance. I am so grateful to contribute to VLJ’s mission and the important work it does for the community.”
Thank you, Richard, for harnessing the power of pro bono with us!
