When talking about the impact of criminal record clearing, the first things that come to mind tend to involve the economic, from improved job opportunities to stable housing. While those are transformative outcomes worthy of celebration, the mental and emotional can be just as powerful. As a recent Volunteer Lawyers for Justice ReLeSe (Reentry Legal Services) Program client shared:
“I was so happy when I heard the news that my expungement was granted! I feel incredibly blessed. VLJ you have been so wonderful and supportive. Every time I traveled, I always had to check off if I had a criminal record and it always felt like a weight on my shoulders. Now that my expungement has been granted if feels like a weight off of my shoulders. If I can give VLJ 5 stars I would! Thank you so much VLJ, I truly appreciate all of your help!”
