For this month's inaugural VLJ “Supporter of the Month” series, we are delighted to recognize the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) Foundation whose generous funding has made a significant impact on VLJ’s Divorce Program and its clients. With the legal help provided by VLJ’s Divorce Program, made possible by support from AAML, a client living with an abusive spouse was able to discharge overwhelming debts through bankruptcy and ultimately secure stable employment that allowed them to save enough money to live on their own. VLJ continues to work with the client as they near a divorce judgment, putting them one step closer to realizing their future.
This case demonstrates VLJ's commitment to ensuring access to justice for people experiencing poverty and the transformative impact of pro bono; it also demonstrates the powerful impact our supporters have. While VLJ’s services are free to clients, they aren’t free to coordinate, so funding from our supporters is essential.
Together, AAML, the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers NJ Chapter, and VLJ are making a difference in the lives of neighbors with unmet civil legal needs. AAML’s unwavering support exemplifies their commitment to creating a more just and equitable New Jersey.
