VLJ’s TENANT ADVISORY CLINIC - Sign up

VLJ’s Tenant Advisory Clinic is a lifeline for Essex County tenants who are facing eviction. At this virtual legal clinic, pro bono attorneys meet with tenants and conduct a thorough interview to capture critical information about the tenant’s case and identify possible defenses.

Each tenant should leave their appointment with a clear understanding of their rights in their cases, defenses they can raise on the date of their trial, and any next step directions to complete.

Tenant advisory clinic - 2026 sign-up

Please use the form below to sign up for an upcoming Tenant Advisory Legal Clinic(s).

Important notes for potential volunteers:

  • Volunteers must make every attempt to be available for the full 3-hour virtual clinic window. Partial coverage impedes VLJ's ability to provide timely services and ensure a good client experience.

  • Submitting the form below does not guarantee you a volunteer spot. Your volunteer spot will be confirmed by a calendar invite sent from VLJ. Sign ups are on a first come, first serve basis and if a slot is full we can include your name on our waitlist.

  • CANCELLATION NOTICE. If you are no longer available to volunteer at a clinic you previously signed up for, please send an email to mrosenberg@vljnj.org ASAP.

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

  • Flexible volunteering. If dedicating 3-hours at once (or Wednesdays generally), do not work with your schedule, please consider providing pro bono services to tenants outside of the limited-scope clinic setting.

Whether or not you have prior experience in these areas, VLJ provides training and support outside of the clinic setting for volunteers who cannot attend clinics and/or who want to provide additional, life changing services to tenants facing eviction. Reach out to VLJ Staff Attorney, Margo Rosenberg (mrosenberg@vljnj.org), for more information about your interests/availability.

  • VLJ partners. If you work with CSG, Stryker, or FBT Gibbons, in addition to completing this form, please make sure your internal pro bono coordinator is aware of your interests/availability in volunteering with this VLJ clinic.
