As a champion for social justice, his tireless advocacy and legal expertise have provided a voice to some of society’s most vulnerable populations. His work continues to inspire those who are committed to ensuring justice for all.

Community Vision Award

The Community Vision Award recognizes a company or individual who has the foresight and passion to dedicate their time, talent, and resources to transforming their community to be more equitable and just.

McGuireWoods’ incredible support of VLJ, particularly through its involvement in our Veterans Legal Program, certainly makes the company worthy of this honor.

McGuireWoods has been a dedicated volunteer partner with our Veterans Legal Program since 2017 and has served over 130 veterans. Volunteers from McGuireWoods have helped veterans with various legal issues including debt relief, eviction defense, expungement, child support modification, estate planning, and more. Their efforts have made a significant impact in the lives of many individuals.

Michael Gertzman

VLJ’s Champion of Justice Award is presented to a member of the community who has a reputation of upholding justice and fighting to ensure that the most marginalized members of our community receive it.

Michael was known for his legal acumen and his ability to navigate complex matters, and he was equally respected for his leadership, mentorship, and focus on justice. Michael’s influence extended far beyond his professional successes; he was deeply committed to pro bono work, which is the primary service model for VLJ.

His legacy of justice, fairness, and service to the community is one that VLJ is proud to honor at our gala. VLJ is honored to celebrate Michael’s memory and the tremendous impact he made through his pro bono work.
