For Volunteer Lawyers for Justice’s October 2023 Supporter of the Month, we recognize PSEG and the PSEG Foundation, a steadfast partner, champion, and cheerleader of VLJ’s Veterans Legal Program. PSEG’s invaluable support fuels VLJ’s services for those who served, extending critical legal help to veterans across New Jersey with their unmet civil legal needs.
In 2014, PSEG saw a need to harness the power of pro bono for veterans, leading PSEG to partner with VLJ to launch the Veterans Legal Program. Since its inception in 2014, the Veterans Legal Program has thrived—powered by dedicated pro bono superstars from PSEG's legal department—paving the way for the expansion of the Veterans Legal Program to the East Orange VA Medical Center in 2017.
Through PSEG’s incredibly generous and continued donation of financial support, time, and talent, the past ten years have seen PSEG and the PSEG Foundation provide an impressive $845,000 in funding, meaning nearly 2,000 veterans have had a legal advocate in their corner.
PSEG and the PSEG Foundation's ongoing support of VLJ shows just how powerful partnerships centered on pro bono, justice, and community can be in bridging the access to justice gap for countless neighbors and community members in New Jersey. Indeed, when it comes to ensuring access to justice for people experiencing poverty, Public Service is more than a name.
