VLJ is thrilled to feature O. Ade Oremosu as our May Volunteer of the Month. Ade is Senior Managing Associate General Counsel at Verizon, where he leads a team of attorneys that support, guide, and counsel Verizon’s Business Products Organization. When not leading his team of attorneys, Ade is a fierce advocate for justice.
Ade first began volunteering with VLJ in March 2020, just as the COVID-19 pandemic began to unfold. Despite the challenges the pandemic presented, Ade was determined to provide remote legal help to those most in need. Specifically, Ade focused on volunteering with VLJ’s ReLeSe and Trafficking Victims Legal Assistance Programs.
Ade believes it is important to offer and provide free legal services to those who cannot afford them in order to help them obtain justice, better jobs, housing, and more. As Ade says, “Rehabilitation requires legal resources.” For Ade, providing legal resources and building trust go hand-in-hand. He shared that one of his most impactful memories volunteering with VLJ is working with his first client, “Danica.” Danica needed to clear her record, but had little faith in the expungement process. As Ade continued to advocate for Danica, he could see her trust, as well as her openness and confidence, grow.
When it comes to volunteering, Ade feels fortunate to work for Verizon, a company truly committed to pro bono work. He is also proud to work with VLJ and grateful for the resources and mentorship provided to ensure volunteers are equipped to handle matters outside of their usual practice areas. Ade believes that VLJ’s mission is truly a worthy one, and that, “VLJ is helping where no one else will.”
Ade is passionate about ensuring everyone has access to legal representation because “justice is not readily attainable without resources.” It is this passion that led Ade to volunteer not only with VLJ, but also Legal Services of New Jersey with expungements; Legal Services of Northern Virginia with military discharge upgrades for veterans; and Legal Information for Families Today with family law matters in New York.
Ade is truly an advocate for justice. VLJ is immensely grateful to Ade for his dedication to VLJ’s clients and to pro bono efforts as a whole. Congratulations to Ade, our May Volunteer of the Month!
