Opportunities for Law Students and Recent Law Graduates


Summer/Semester Internships/Externships
Students interested in an internship/externship during an academic semester or over the summer must complete this application form. We accept applications during the following periods: 

Summer semester: December 15 through March 15
Fall semester: July 1 through September 30
Spring semester: November 15 through February 1
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so we encourage interested students to apply early!

50-hour Volunteer Opportunities (January, May, or August)
Law students and recent graduates interested in volunteering to fulfill the 50-hour pro bono requirement must complete the form above. 
NOTE: VLJ is only able to provide volunteer hours to students in the months of January, May, and August. Applications can be submitted year-round.  We will review applications on a rolling basis. 

Opportunities for Other Students

VLJ sometimes has interns and volunteers that do not have a legal background. Such internships and volunteer opportunities will be posted periodically below. If you are interested, apply accordingly.

Bilingual Student Volunteer - currently accepting students

Helpful languages include: Spanish, Portuguese, French Creole, Arabic, Chinese/Cantonese

Volunteers primarily needed for VLJ’s limited-scope legal clinics. Clinics run for 2-4 hours in downtown Newark, NJ (with some held in East Orange, NJ and Elizabeth, NJ).
