Opportunities for Law Students and Recent Law Graduates
Students interested in an internship/externship during an academic semester must complete this application form. We accept applications during the following periods:
Fall semester: July 1 through September 15
Spring semester: November 15 through February 1
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so we encourage interested students to apply early!
50-hour Volunteer Opportunities (January, May, or August)
Law students and recent graduates interested in volunteering to fulfill the 50-hour pro bono requirement must complete this application form.
NOTE: VLJ is only able to provide volunteer hours to students in the months of January, May, and August. Applications can be submitted year-round. We will review applications on a rolling basis.
VLJ recruits summer interns through the NYU Public Interest Job Fair every February.
Interested students should contact their school’s public interest office for information on how to apply through the job fair. Students whose school does not participate in the NYU Job Fair may apply directly to VLJ by sending a resume and cover letter to email@example.com between December 1st and January 15th.
Please note that we review applications regularly for all of the opportunities listed above, but will only reach out to applicants from whom we wish to receive a resume.
Opportunities for Other Students
VLJ sometimes has interns and volunteers that are from other fields. Such internships and volunteer opportunities will be posted periodically below. If you are interested, apply accordingly.
Veteran Internship - currently accepting applicants
Through Volunteer Lawyers for Justice’s Discharge Upgrade Program, VLJ assists veterans with less than honorable discharges apply for an upgrade before a military board. VLJ is seeking assistance in reviewing military personnel files to determine whether or not a veteran is appropriate for an upgrade application. This opportunity is available to law students of any year who have served or are currently serving in any branch of the military. Interested applicants should send a cover letter and resume to Diana Onuschak, Project Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
