Children's Representation Program
In this program lawyers provide free legal advice and representation to children with disabilities who have been denied the special education services to which they are entitled, students who have been suspended or expelled from school, or children who are victims of harassment/bullying in school. We assist families throughout New Jersey, but legal issues are screened by non-profits specializing in education law before being referred to us. We do not accept any direct calls for service on this program.
If your child is having a special education or school discipline issue in Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, Mercer, Monmouth, Ocean, or Salem counties you should call Disability Rights New Jersey at (809) 992-7233 for assistance. If your child is having a special education or school discipline issue in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex, Union, and Warren OR a harassment or bullying issue anywhere in the state, please call the Education Law Center at (973) 624-1815 ext. 30. The partner organization will ask you questions about your legal issue and your finances and will determine if you have a legal issue that can be served by our office, their office, or by another organization. If your case is referred to VLJ, the referring organization will tell you and you will receive a phone call from our office.
